The Childcare Provider's Choice
Proudly Serving Tennesse and Kentucky

ABOUT Us

OUR Mission

Karamu’s Mission is to provide low cost, high quality services to Tennessee’s childcare providers and the children and families they serve.

OUR History

The Karamu Nutrition Program (KNP) is one of the largest non-profit food program sponsors in the country. Karamu’s founder and Executive Director, Dr. Vera Corley-Sims, is a retired childcare provider and a nationally known advocate for provider and children’s causes. Karamu is a provider friendly organization which has built a strong reputation of treating its providers with respect and courtesy.

OUR Vision

To become the childcare industry’s largest and most trusted provider of services.

OUR Programs

CACFP supports institutions that want to initiate or improve food service in a variety of settings, including adult daycare centers. Adult care centers receive payments for serving nutritious meals to adults who are 60 or older, or who are physically or mentally impaired to the extent that limits their independence and ability to carry out activities of daily living.

When school is out and parents are still at work, children need a safe place to be with their friends, with structured activities, supportive adults, and good nutrition. Community-based programs that offer enrichment activities for at-risk children and youth, 18 and under, after the regular school day ends, can provide free meals and snacks through CACFP.

Eligible public or private nonprofit child care centers, outside-school-hours care centers, Head Start programs, and other institutions which are licensed or approved to provide day care services may participate in the CACFP.

CACFP provides reimbursement for meals and snacks served to small groups of children receiving nonresidential day care in private homes that are licensed or alternately approved to provide family child care.
